Hey all, Here’s another OSX Automator app I created that replaces names. e.g. Icons–01.png can be replaced to become Icons_01.png etc etc… can be used with multiple files at once. Follow the step by step guide below.

How to use:

1. I find adding the app to my dock the best place for it, that way it is readily accessible at any time.
2. Unzip the zip file and place the app somewhere safe on your computer… possibly in your applications folder or in a workflows folder.
3. To add to your dock you can simply click on the app and drag it down to the dock until a space becomes available then release it there.
4. Find some files that need to have their names altered. In this example I use Icons–01, and I want to replace the double dashes with an underscore.
5. Select all the files and drag them onto the Replace app.
6. In the dialogue box input the text needing to be removed (in this example “–” without the speech marks)
7. In the box below it, input what you want to replace them with, (in this example i went with an underscore “_” without the speech marks)
8. Make sure you pick ‘basename only’ from the drop down list (most times you will ever use this app it will be ‘basename only’). ‘Basename only’ is everything up until the dot before the file extension. ‘Extension only’ is everything after the dot. ‘Full name’ is everything, the basename and the extension.
9. Click Continue.
10. Your files should now have been renamed with those replacements made.

How to use:

4. Open the Rename app.
5. A dialogue box will open up.
6. Drag the files you want renamed sequentially into the box.
7. Click continue.
8. Insert the name you want to give the files in the ‘New Name’ box. In this case I input ‘Icons’
9. Click continue.
10. The files have now been sequentially named.

Where to place

1. Unzip ‘Copy Path.workflow.zip’ file.
2. Click on the desktop or a finder window.
3. Click the ‘Go’ menu item in the top menu bar.
4. Press and hold the ‘Alt/Option’ key and you will see the ‘Library’ menu item appear in the list.
5. Click Library Menu Item.
6. A finder window will open.
7. Scroll down to the Services Folder and place the unzipped ‘Copy Path.workflow’ file in there. (if there is no Services Folder, Create one and place the file into it)
8. Now select some files on the desk top or in a finder window and go to the ‘Services’ menu item to see if ‘Copy Path’ is in the menu.

If all going to plan you can select Copy path, and it will do just that… and now when you right click on folders and files Copy Path should be at the base of the menu item. (Hopefully)

This will copy the path of multiple files or folders to the clipboard. You can now paste the paths.

Adding a shortcut

If you wanted to add a shortcut for this command.

1. Open your ‘System Preferences’
2. Select ‘Keyboard’
3. Select ‘Keyboard Shortcuts’ at the top of this window
4. Click on ‘Services’ in the left menu
5. Scroll the list on the right until you see ‘Copy Path’
6. Click in the box to the right of it and create a shortcut. It is best not to use shortcuts reserved for the OS. I made mine Cmd+Option+Control+Shift+C (Just to be on the extra Safe side… )

UPDATE:
You could just double click the file when it has been downloaded, and that installs it also.
